Good Hot Fish

My wife brought me here and I’m so glad she did. The seafood dip was amazing. Wife loved her shrimp burger. Small indoor dining area, but seats turned over quickly. Cheap cold beer too!

Im from Shelby North Carolina. I decided to try the local spots while visiting. Everything I had was AMAZING! THE STAFF ARE FRIENDLY. I had a few minutes to look over the owners book, and it really caught my attention. If you are in Ashville it's a Must try!

The portions are generous, and every plate that hits the table keeps the flavor party going. If you’re in Asheville and haven’t been to Good Hot Fish, you’re seriously missing out. It’s comfort food elevated, and it’s served with heart. Go hungry, leave happy, and come back often.

Damn this is good fish! I loved some of the other ventures that the chef had, and we had been wanting to try good hot fish, but they close at seven, and so every time we were downtown and looking for a place, we missed it. We are late eaters. But even though we were eating later, we went to good hot fish before they closed and brought it back to the house. I will say that it reheated fabulously as well. With no problem. We just took the tartar sauce off, and it reheated beautifully. I had a good hot fish sandwich and it was wonderful. I love frying catfish, but it makes a big mess and I hate cleaning up the grease. This breading was perfect; it’s just like the catfish that my family used to make. The tartar sauce was better than my homemade tartar sauce. It was all excellent. My husband had the trout bologna, and we are huge fried bologna melted cheese sandwich people, and he said it tasted just like fried bologna. But without all the calories! So it was all very very good, but the highlight... the real highlight was the sweet potato cabbage pancake. I am still thinking about that sweet potato cabbage pancake. The menu description dubs it “beloved” and I can see why. It was crispy. It was soft. It was tangy. It was full of umami. It had a molasses type flavor, but it also had a savoriness to it. It was all the things! We will be back. I would like to make one request, I know it’s tricky to keep a restaurant open later, but gosh I have so many gigs in the area and it would be wonderful to be able to have good hot fish open a little bit later so I could eat before I go perform down the street. Maybe until 8 o’clock? I realize that’s just me being selfish, but... A girl can dream.

Good hot fish should be called Great hot fish! Everything about this place is fantastic. The food is very nostalgic if you’re from the south. It’s soulful, flavorful, with a touch of modernity. I ordered the blackened catfish, with a side of Mac’n’cheese, and the hot slaw. SO Good!! I work in the industry so I am a bit hard to please and wow I am so happy with my dinner. A hidden gem that deserves way more hype! Check it out!

So so good! We got the breaded catfish with greens and beans. It was absolutely delicious. The first few bites were to die for. And the greens were shockingly good - I didn't expect to love them so much. One 2 things I might change would be slightly less salty on the breaded catfish and more seating! Will absolutely be coming back because overall it was INCREDIBLE.

We saw this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try, and we were not disappointed. Alexis (please forgive me if i got it wrong) she was our hostess and friendly. I had fried rainbow trout, DELICIOUS, my husband had the catfish, mac and cheese, and peas were good as well. We will return in the near future.

All I wanted today was a good fish sandwich...the name says it all. Got a fish plate for 1 more. The fries were weird and delicious. Mac and cheese was on point. The fish was seasoned and fried perfectly. The greens, though..... When I tell you I was transported home to Louisiana. The cook and the cashier were super friendly and attentive. We got to enjoy live music next door...good for the digestion I will definitely be back.
